Super Boy II is an unlicensed Sega Master System game developed by Zemina and released exclusively in South Korea in 1989. It is the direct sequel to Super Boy I and like its prequel, was ported from an MSX version of the game. Despite only working in a Sega Master System, it uses the same graphical mode used to run SG-1000 games, so could be considered an SG-1000 game in disguise.
Like Super Boy I, Super Boy II is a Super Mario Bros. clone, however offers a brand new set of levels not seen in any official Mario game. Due to its MSX roots the graphics are simpler, scrolling is choppy and several gameplay aspects are missing (such as the ability to kick koopa shells). None of the features omitted in the previous entry returns in this iteration; once again, there are no secrets, underwater stages, warp zones, bonuses, or other power-ups besides the mushroom. The only difference is in the actual layout of the locations, as well as in the message following a Bowser encounter in a castle; instead of being greeted by 'Sorry Nothing', the player is encouraged by the order 'Go! Next stage'.
This version of Super Boy II was designed for the Sega Master System (SMS), which was an 8-bit video game console manufactured
by Sega in the years 1985 - 1992. It was a direct competitor to the much more successful NES console and the predecessor of the much beter console Sega Genesis.
The unit price of Master System was approximately $ 200 and worldwide only 13 million units of this console were sold. More information about Sega Master
System can be found here.
