Chess Player 2150 was a commercial chess program developed by Chris Whittington in 1989, marketed by his company Oxford Softworks. The program has started it’s career with an impressive 1st place in the 1989 British Open Personal Computer Chess Championship. Chess Players 2150 ran on various most 68000 based platforms, like Atari ST and Commodore Amiga, and the 2175 version was also ported to run on Apple Macintosh and 8086 PCs. According to Thorsten Czub, Chess Player 2150 used a selective Shannon Type B Strategy, with its immanent affinity to blunder once in a game [2]. Chess Player 2150 played also at the 1st Computer Olympiad 1989.
Chess Player 2150 decisively defeated its computer opponents. He beats ChessMaster 2000 9:1, Colossus Chess 9.5:0.5, ChessMaster 2100 6.5:3.5 and Psion Chess 7:3. Although the author clearly wanted the game to be used by serious chess players, he included in some versions of this game whimsical chess pieces as well. One set includes farm animals (sheep pawns, dog rooks, horse knights, chicken bishops, cow queens, and pig kings); Another setting includes Science-Fiction pieces that look like aliens. The game can be played in 2D or 3D, and includes digitised speech on the Amiga version.
