From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

Ninja Golf is an Atari 7800 video game which combines scrolling beat 'em up and golf gameplay. Released in 1990, it later gained some renown for its outlandish subject matter and unique blend of gameplay styles. It was one of the final 11 games Atari released in 1990-91 for the 7800 before dropping support for that system.

In 2022, it was included in the video game compilation Atari 50.
You are a ninja, and your goal is to survive nine holes of ninja golf! On each of the holes, you alternate between the golf and action parts. First you hit the ball by selecting the direction and distance from the overhead view on the bottom of the screen; next you will need to run to the location your ball was hit while defending yourself from the many enemies. Depending on the terrain you need to cross, various enemy ninjas, giant frogs, killer sharks, snakes, and other enemies will all get in your way. To eliminate the enemies, you can kick, punch, or use a throwing star. Several bonuses may be found from time to time; temporary invincibility, an extra life, health restoration, or a magic transport to the green may all appear on the screen. Once you have reached the green, you will need to defeat a fire breathing dragon which guards the hole. The nine hole course progressively increases in difficulty and features par 3, par 4, and par 5 holes.
AllGame gave the game a two and a half star rating out of five. The review noted the repetitive gameplay and lack of replay value. In an AtariHQ review, Matthew Lippart praised the fighting, disliked the golf elements, and concluded with 'a good game that's worth having just because it's friggin' weird.' Atari 7800 Forever gave it a 4 out of 5, praising the whimsical gameplay and the overall fun factor of the game. In 2011, IGN called the game's box cover one of the most notable in video game history
