SimuSex is a simple sexual simulator for DOS, released in 1992 by the company Erosoft. The game allows players to select various sexual positions and interact with animated characters through mouse movements.
While it features smooth animations and was one of the first programs with virtual characters offering more than static graphics and text descriptions, its content and depth are limited.
SimuSex (MS-DOS)
The game consists of ten activities where the screen switches to a static display of a partner, and the player interacts using a cursor shaped like a corresponding body part. The animations are minimal, and the graphical depiction of characters is more cartoonish than realistic. The sound effects are basic, and in the absence of a sound card, they are displayed as textual descriptions, such as 'Shloop' or 'Slish.'
Upon registration, the game promised an upgraded version, SimuSex 2.0, featuring improved graphics, interactive 3D models, digitized sound effects, and advanced artificial intelligence for characters. However, this version was never released, and Erosoft went defunct after the initial game's launch.
In the 1990s, SimuSex was widely distributed on BBS networks but received predominantly negative reviews. Players criticized the lack of gameplay objectives, limited interactivity, and low production quality. The game is often regarded as a curiosity from the early days of digital erotica, which failed to make a significant contribution to the gaming industry.
Despite its shortcomings, SimuSex holds a unique place in gaming history as an early attempt to merge simulation gameplay with adult themes. The game's experimental nature reflects the shifting attitudes of the early 1990s towards digital media as a space for exploring taboo topics. While it may not have succeeded in delivering a compelling or polished experience, its existence paved the way for more sophisticated adult-oriented games and encouraged developers to explore unconventional subject matter within the medium.
